Chris Cantell Discusses Lawsuits: Pobednici i gubitnici
by Zivka Deleva

Ne znam koj go kažal ova, no znam deka bil vo pravo: "Koga ste siromašen, ste sreken.

Winners or losers
by Barbora Misakova

I don't know who said it, but I know he was right: “When you are poor, you are lucky. Cos you have nothing what could be stolen.” It is sometimes funny for me when I realize that we are looking at beggars and homeless people with such a pity, like they were the most unhappy and unlucky people in the world. Like the fact they don't have a flat or house, good car, pretty and clean clothes make them less worthy. The problem is that we have never been on their side of a bridge. We are still looking at our life from our point of view and then we can never understand it clearly. Only a man without single penny knows it is not such a catastrophe (especially these days) to live without money. You really never know who and when will relieve you of them. Financial crisis in the U.S. came and spread on the rest of the world just like the plague. We weren't prepared because we were just used we and our money are safe. And what about today? Well, today we are counting our money every day, just to verify none of our precious dollars didn't disappear. We are thinking twice what to do with our last dollar, where to invest it – we don't want to end up on the street at the end of a month, do we? We are just worried about everything, even about the weather. Homeless don't have such a problems. They have nothing to lose, and even though it sounds a bit cliché and creepy, they are free.

When we are talking about money, it is necessary to realize there are always two types of players – winners and losers. Into the first group we can include especially big banks and corporations such as Merrill Lynch & Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc. or Wachovia Corp. These companies are working with big bucks of money, they are investing them, they are just playing with various kind of securities which cover really big values. And then there are losers – usually the small bank clients which are stupid enough to believe the bank clerks more than their wives. And even though these two groups are totally different they have one thing in common – they want more money. After the economic break down in the U.S. everyone was loosing and everyone was trying to get out of this mud. And it seems that banks found again a good way how to do it. Already mentioned corporations were selling some of their securities to the investors in big nominal values, but now they have to face investigation whether they misled investors in the auction-rate securities market or not. While there is a big threat they will have to face NY lawsuit they are promising to repurchase auction-rate securities from their customers. The attorney general's office thinks it is “woefully inadequate” plan though. Wachovia promised to buy back $8.5 billion of the securities, Citigroup, UBS AG, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Morgan Stanley agreed to repurchase $32.6 billion in auction-rate securities. Money are spinning and changing its owner constantly and you can never be sure when you will loose all of them.

Chris Cantell Discusses Lawsuits: Víťazi či porazení
by Barbora Misakova

by Radka Konkolova

2 Former Bear Stearns Managers Face 20 years of Jail For Fraud Conspiracy!
by Milota Sidorova

American FBI has finally pulled in to the massive investigation lightening fraud conspiracies behind the subprime mortgage crisis, that knocked out the majority of world's financial world. According the latest press, Justice Department in Washinghton has decided to start trial against more than four hundred charge-sheets having their fingers in the fat fraud pie, spreading out from Wall Street crashing down hundreds of misinformed investors.

Most of them were arrested during Wednesday and Thursday. However, media pressure strikes the case of two former Bear Stearns hedge managers. Ralph Cioffi, 52 and Matthew Tannin, 46 have been charged from concealing informations to investors and premediated fraud conspiracy.
Their continuously misstatement of income and assets, forged documentation, inflated appraisals and misrepresentation of buyer's intent to occupy property as primary residence led into loss of investor's at least $1,8 billion. Although, they did know the true.
Once again and shortly enough! Knowing the market crisis is about to fall, they advised and encouraged investors to put and extend hedge funds. Tannin himself, put his $2 million put of troubled fund and separated it without telling investment's group.

Both men face almost 20 years in prison. This morning they has been released on bond, accompanied their wives, making no official statement. The trial will begin 18th July.

Returning to Bear Stearns, New York based global investment banks, securities trading and brokerage firms declared to be badly damaged by the credit crisis in 2007. Just before the collapse in mid-year, it had more than $20 billion in assets. Whereas the corporation had been drowning till March 2008, the only one solution was buy out. JP Morgan Chase bought it for 10 dollars per share, a price far bellow its original value.

Cioffi and Tannin have been detected and charged due a series of proving internal e-mail communication.E-mail correspondence was the key evidence pleading guilty in the case of Credit Suisse Group banker Frank Quattrone, stock analysts Jack Grubman and Henry Blodget.

You are not guilty, until we prove you are guilty. That's how the famous American trial law works. However Cioffi's and Tannin's defenders loudly speak out, naïve arguments. It has happened to the whole world, so why do you accuse just our clients?

Smells like an expired fish tin to me.

Mortgage Fraud exposed
by Claudia Sonea

It is for no surprise that US is facing a housing crisis since last year that is worsening day by day. Everyone talked about solutions and the effects of the crisis, but few people talked about the real causes of it. Finally the Justice Department makes its work public at a news conference in Washington as part of the preparation for asking the Congress more money to fund its combat against collar crime and violent crime.
In the last few months there have been investigated 1406 people in the “Operation Malicious Mortgage" that tracks down mortgage fraud at a national level considered being responsible of the present housing crisis. Since March there were discovered 144 cases across the country and over 400 real estate agents and manager have been indicted. Only yesterday 60 people were arrested in Miami, Chicago and other regions, including New York where two former Bear Stearns managers become the first executives charged of such crimes.
The types of fraud were related to false statements of assets, forged documents, and others. The Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network announced that the reports of fraud coming from banks are 10 times higher than what it was in 2001 or 2002, while the FBI estimated for the homeowners and other borrowers’ loss to surpass $1 billion.
As it is, US residents should feel more at peace with themselves because at least the Justice Department functions well. However, the indictment of those who are responsible for the housing crisis won’t actually bring a saving solution. The focus should be on that too.
